Watercolor is an exciting but demanding medium. Although sometimes baffled by watercolor’s lack of cooperation, I find its dance enthralling. I am passionate about it. Success is capturing the essence of a subject. The pencil lines incorporated in my work impart a structure and I prefer they remain visible. Since what is not painted is often as important as what is painted, my work also incorporates ample white space, as well as the movement and expression of the paint. I predominately paint pictures of people interspersed with exotic places, boats, and other nautical themes. This is natural since I live and cruise on a boat and have done so since 1996. Painting on a small sailboat is challenging and often limits the size of my work, but offers the world as a subject. You can read about our sailing adventures at MillieJ. |
